We have them in our bedroom, over the bed. Two together are 7' wide x 3' tall. Love them for all the reasons you list! The rest of the windows in the house are casement so they all look similar from the outside when closed.

I would double check that but a 4' x 3' sliding window will not meet code for egress.

IMO all windows should look the same on the exterior so the awning and casement do that usually. I agree that the slider is not a good choice for egress but neither is an awning in many cases. I also think the style of house needs to be considered when choosing windows.

Sliders are fine for egress, they just need to be quite large to get the necessary clear opening. I am yet to see an "Awning" window that will meet egress requirements.

Have you considered either a hopper or a tilt-turn style window? Personally I prefer them to awnings (or casements) for a number of reasons, but not everyone offers them. And they can be pricey

I couldn't get one window, at least not from Pella. Maybe others make them that long. Here's a picture of the 2 windows ... the angle at which I took this photo makes them look short, but they are indeed 7'. The bottom two windows are also awnings.

(There is another window on a wall not shown that is 6'x3' for egress.)

They seem to me to be very small windows ona very large wall of house.
