I would, the style is a bit pretty for suck heavy pulls... the black really draws attention to them and not the other finishes.

I also don't like bare bulbs at eye level, but everyone seems to love those fixtures.

Agree that the black is not right for the room. Replace pulls and fixtures with softer finish.

it's a nice room, but -- yes -- I'd do a couple things:

- I'd change the birdcage lights over the island. They're too large for the space. I would go with silver or gold tone.

- Yes, I'd change the hardware. It feels "heavy" for this room.

- Without those black accents, the black pantry door would look out of place. I'd paint it.

The main problem is the lights -- too large, out of character -- and bare bulbs.

I think it's all really pretty. I'd replace those cabinet door with the arches - they look really dated and don't match the other cabinets. FWIW, we have those same cabinet doors and I can guarantee they're from 1980.

Thanks everyone! I think you all articulated what I didn't realize was my problem. I agree I feel the black is too heavy and the lights too large for the island but I think it's the bare bulbs over the island that were really throwing me off . Ill look for something that directs the light more to the island. Thanks!

With the arched cabinet doors, I think a bin pull or a pull with some curve to it is called for. I think this collection has the right shape for your room. Something like this could also work.

The problem with bin pulls is if anyone has large hands or long nails, they can be annoying. Regular pulls come in so many styles, and often can be bought in bulk (much cheaper).

If you post the dimensions of your island, one or two of the pros can tell you what sized island fixtures you should look for. Obviously your seller didn’t have the proportions right….

I agree with the pendant style and size being too big. I cannot do exposed bulbs, because they hurt my eyes. I would not look at anything with see through glass, even though they do look pretty and make things look light and airy. But again the exposed bulbs kill me, and they also need cleaning more often. YMMV. But, I think you are on the right track looking for ones that direct the light down onto the counters.

If the black hardware was a different style, I would not change them. However, I really dislike that style. When the ends stick out like that, they tend to catch your clothes. I am also pretty sure those are the cheapest basic builder (pack of 10) handles from the big box stores. So if you change them out, you might as well go with a brushed nickel or other lighter finish.

I also think you should get new bar stools because they too are very heavy looking.

Oh and I kind of like the contrast of the darker pantry door. If you added some black decor to the open shelves and around the room, I think it will be okay to leave the door.

Once you do those few minor changes, you kitchen will be great! Congrats on your new home!

there is really nice detail at the ceiling. the island looks like it was added into the space. its very nice. [no arches] I would spend on really beautiful pendants to replace the black ones there.. I would have them situated a little higher to work with your unique ceiling details. I would switch to a bit "fancier metal finish" for cabinet handles to work with some metal on new pendants. this all does not have to be "in your face" but do upgrade the hardware and pendants.

Globes would be a bit smaller and hung higher, as herbflavor shows. I was just trying to cover the existing lights. But you get the general idea.

This is the one i used above. You see they are smaller in real life.
