Build what you want, where you want. Make it complement the house. There is no need to make the garage as tall as the house.

Does not need to be as tall as the house. Just need to looks in scale with the house.

Two roof lines for the garage...you don't want the three stalls to look like a motel.

Two stalls get a front gable to relate to the gable on the house. To save $ the third stall could be a shed roof (not shown in this inspiration photo).

See if you can keep the roof pitch the same as the house's. That's one thing that will help them look like they belong together. I don't know that I would do a metal roof on the garage either since the house doesn't have one. I'm not sure how literally you were planning on duplicating your inspiration pic.

There are a lot of factors involved in adding a garage on the site of an existing house, more that your mentioned concern. Perhaps you should seek professional help.

(I usually recommend seeking the assistance from a local architect, but in wording it the way I did, it is open to a broader interpretation)
