IMO 3500 K is as warm as I would ever use I actully have all 4000K in my home I love it it like bright daylight . I find clients who switch from incandecsent find it very differnt at first and then love it later. I use Philips for some but I am truly not very fussy about who makes them and have good luck with many makers.

I've had good luck with Euri Lighting bulbs. If you find 2700K bulbs too "orange" (they're actually similar to incandescent bulbs), try 3000K bulbs. Bulbs with high CRI (CRI 90+) render colors more accurately than bulbs with lower CRI but are more expensive.

Purchasers like thesePhilips 2700K CRI95 bulbs with so-called "warm glow" which appears to reduce the color temperature as the light is dimmed. I tried a similar bulb and didn't like it but you might.

Don't just look at the Kelvin. You also need to look at the Lumens. Cheaper lights will skimp on the lumens.

I have 3500K recessed lights in my house with high lumens and all on dimmers. For light fixtures, unfortunately you have to buy a bunch of bulbs and try them out at home. I tried 3 different types before I found the ones that looked best in the pendants I have around my house.

Hallett - thanks! Where are you seeing CRI? Doesnt seem to be listed on the boxes for either my GE or Philips bulbs

The packages of common LED bulbs aren't going to show you the CRI because there's no claim of performance. Even some high-CRI bulbs such as GE Reveal bulbs don't show it on the package. You have to look at the specs of the bulbs before you buy. The website with the Euri Lighting bulbs I linked above (click the footnote link) display each bulb's CRI and the manufacturer's spec sheets show the bulb's CRI with other performance data).

Selecting lightbulbs has become rocket science.

After a ton of research and testing of lightbulbs about 5 years ago I landed on the Cree brand lightbulbs because they had good performance records and had some of the best CRI available at the time.

I just helped my sister research bulbs and Cree has some serious competition with the GE Reveal, Relax and Refresh.

Reveal is the coolest white they make at 5000 k

Refresh is in the middle at 2850 k

Relax is their warmest white at 2700 k

Cree has 3 colors

Soft White 2700K

Bright White 3000K

Daylight White 5000K

Both brands have good ratings, both brands have CRI over 90

My sister bought 1 of each 2 the 60 watt equivalent except not looking at the 5000k - she likes a warmer light. She will look at all 4 bulbs in comparison to her current bulb and make a final decision.
