Couple of things......

First, what species of maple do you have? Different species have different growing requirements and tolerances. And to my knowledge, there is no maple cultivar with that name. Could it possibly be 'October Glory'?.

It's at the end of its growing season so not surprising the foliage is looking tattered and it's starting to lose leaves. That is completely expected. Just make sure you water deeply in any prolonged dry spells but there is nothing else you need to do now.

Photos would help.

since your ground does not freeze.. water it all winter long.. if its dry out there... roots need water.. even when the tree doenst have leaves.. it can store it up for next year ...

how about a pic or two ..

i am surprised JMs do Louisiana .. i dont have time to research it this sunday morning...

where did you get it.. are you sure you were sent a plant that will work in your area by a reputable dealer??

there are a multitude of types of JMs... it might help if we could ID it.. and make sure this one doesnt mind your zone.. and humidity ...

ken

ken, it is not a Japanese maple......or at least, not a registered cultivar. There is NO maple cultivar listed by that name. Which is why identification of the tree in question is important. Red or Freeman maples can thrive in LA: JM's not so much.

I apologize, it is ”October Glory”. i ordered it through Tristar Plants. It is not a Japanese Maple. i can post a pic or two. i will post ASAP.

These photos are not easy to see the tree. You must zoom in to see the leaves better.
