Vinyl or Fiber cement Board and Baton? Fiber cement horizontal clapboard? Either would loo ok in my opinion.

First, it probably is not a good idea to eliminate the vent unless there is going to be a different way to ventilate the space. If you're reroofing you could maybe add a peak vent if you don't already have one. What is the plan as far as venting?

If the only areas with siding are the sides in the roof peak then you are not talking about a large area. Look at Hardie board or other cementious siding. It's available in a wide variety of colors and configurations. It holds its color for longer than other painted surfaces and can be repainted if you tire of the color. We had it on our previous house and I became a fan of it. You might want to show a picture of the front of your house if you want people to have a better idea of the style of your house and get more suggestions about colors and patterns for the siding.

The vent is no longer necessary as we spray foamed our entire attice so it functions as part of the house now. 👍🏻
