Lighting Design Dilemma Kitchens

Hello, i just moved to a new home and there is an eating island. Not sure how to decorate this area. Do i need lighting or something on counter? Something on the wall above the counter? Any help would be appreciated!

Can you post a wider picture of the whole area so we can get some context? What do you mean by uncomfortable? It looks like there is enough room for the stool. Do you mean it's unattractive, or dark? Do you have recessed lighting or pendants?

What is uncomfortable, exactly? The amount of leg space under the counter? Closeness to the wall? Lack of lighting?

Recessed and a light hanging in the middle (which we woukd like to change) there is only natural light behind the counter in the dining area

It's the perfect spot for kitchen type art.

Not sure what size you need.

A good sized shallow wooden bowl would be nice filled with lemons and artichokes for example.
