It's in the black/red oak family. The acorns could be in the first year -- takes 2 years for them to mature. Species -- hard to say. Leaves don't look much like California black oak.

Could be scarlet oak...

I've never seen California Black Oak, but at least some of the leaf images online look very much like the OP's photo

Very nice color -- some oaks are mediocre in coloring.
