Inset: 1" overhang

Partial Overlay: 1" to 1.25" overhang

Full Overlay or Frameless: 1" to 1.5" overhang

I, personally, would not like 1.75" overhang. And yes, with a farmsink....you should not overhang too far out.

The cabinets in my current house were ruined because there was not enough countertop overhang. Particularly where your sink is involved, I don't think you can have too much overhang. It protects you from grease splatters at the cooktop and water splashing from the sink. You are talking 1/4 of an inch here, anyway. It is not something that people are even going to notice one day or the other.

We had 1 1/4" in one house which was annoying berceuse the handles stuck out further than the counter edge. Unless the kitchen is very modern 1 3/4 will be fine

There's no hard and fast rule about this. Do what looks good to you and you'll be fine.

1 3/4 will be great. I was disappointed that I didn't have enough space to do that in my recent renovation.
