I’ve had clients get high gloss ceilings and the prep is unbelievable. I would also consider wallpaper.

If you must change it, what about the same color as the walls in the adjacent hall, in a flat finish?

Be bold. The worst thing that will happen is that you won’t like it and will have to paint again.

My painter, who has done this for other clients, says the last time he did this, they spent over a week prepping the ceilings, spackling and sanding repeatedly. And then when they started painting, sanding in between multiple coats. It took weeks to do one room. If you have a flat solid plaster ceiling (and almost nobody has plaster ceilings anymore) it's a little easier. In my opinion if you are going to do this the surfaces have to be almost flawless. I have seen it done on less than perfect surfaces, and some people are perfectly happy with it. It depends on what you want.

You could consider a flat finish in the same shade as the walls. It will not look exactly the same on the ceiling, both because of it being a horizontal surface and because of the different sheens interacting with the light.

I agree no high gloss it shows every tiny flaw and reflects light weirdly . Use the same color matte it will be fine. I like wallpapered ceilings somethimes but in this case let the walls be the star. I aslo think the wall color in the hall could work again in matte.

Very pretty room! IDK…looking at tracefloyd’s last mockup using the wall color is ”pulling” the ceiling down to my eye. I‘d go lighter.

i also (modestly) agree that my first mockup seems to work for the same reason^^.

Usually ceilings go with matte (flat) finish.

I painted my ceiling a metallic bronze color. I’m sick of the walls, but I still love the ceiling.
