You've got some really nice individual pieces in there but the room lacks focus. Before you decide on a new paint color and furniture, experiment with rearraging what you have so it more serves what you really are using the room for, and consider more ceiling lights to illuminate the room

The TV would probably look better lower, at eye level when seated. Your existing furniture doesn't need to be spread out so distant from each other. Bring it all into easier conversational range. Try moving the coffee table between the 2 chairs and put the chunky black lamp on it. Is there a reason the sectional is oriented to ignore the fireplace?

More suggestions would be to take the Asian statue out of the corner and put it to the left of the sliding chest. . Instead of 2 photos flanking the chest, stack them both on the right of the chest. Take the objects on top of the chest and put them on the Asian credenza. I don't know what a rain lamp is but if its yours it might look quite interesting hanging down in front of the fireplace.

If you are going to keep the hearts artwork, consider a rug that brings in its colors and the browns of the cabinetry that might also have an Asian feel

As it is now, the fireplace is not appealing. Is that just rough stucco painted shiny black? It looks like a portal to let evil into the world in a horror film (especially with the Kardashians on the screen). With some level 5 plastering or tile it will be a highlight but now....

Paul F! Didn’t even notice the Kardashians but yes!!! It is stucco painted black. Was actually thinking about covering in copper to pick up the copper in the cabinets on the side. Replaster makes sense.

I think you'd be more inclined to feature it in your furniture layout if it were nicer looking. Check out kiva or bee hive fireplaces for inspo. Also, plenty of fireplace faux finish/designers out there that can do metallic finishes.

I like everything except the those end tables and the tall lamp on the end table. in the pics', it looks overwhelming. My only other input, is that piece hanging over in the corner by the statue. looks like too much over there.

Get a bigger rug that all the feet of your sectional is on the rug. Move the two mid century modern chairs by the fireplace and reverse your sectional. The side of the sectional where it is closer to the fireplace should be now facing the TV. Just my opinion.

I have to disagree about a bigger rug. I think the rug is too big already and you have a nice floor. I would pick a rug size to define a new conversational space in the room

What a cool space! You have some awesome pieces. What strikes me are all the chrome leggy items. Maybe you could replace the side tables with something more solid, like a petrified tree stump. You could also replace the X-benches under the TV console with round solid ottomans, or maybe cool baskets that could also be storage.

I agree that the rug looks a bit small for the room size. You could layer an antique rug over a larger seagrass, if you don't find a large antique one that you love.

I like a gallery wall, so I'd fill yours in with even more pieces, and separate your trio of pictures so the wall is more random. You could also add a few frames in a complementary tone, like wood or soft gold or copper, so that it's not strictly black and white.

Finally, the room might benefit from some greenery. If you move the statue out of the corner, would a tree fit there? Or if you stack the photographs on one side of the cabinet as someone suggested, you could put a tree on the other side.

I agree there’s an odd shuffled look to the your stuff- I’d sort like with like and create interesting areas: make a gallery wall for art and/or photographs; move the Asian credenza under the tv or vice versa, and let the library table with books exist maybe below the photos. I’d definitely find a multicolor rug, online auctions feature some great ones for reasonable prices, and pick up the colors in jazzy pillows like those shown, or comfy solid velvet or silk ones/ or both. Have the sectional face view the tv and the fireplace; create another seating area in a corner with the 2 black leather chairs. Add a comfy pretty lounge chair with ottoman to the sofa area and bring it together for conversation with a less ostentatious coffee table and no lamp on it. I’d cover the sliding glass doors at night somehow- curtains?

Can you add some lighting to the built-in cabinetry? It would add balance to the lighting in your room. Could be as simple as a few low lamps.

There's a lot to look at and I agree with previous posters that removing some furniture would be good. Since you have the built-in cabinetry, consider removing the tall cabinet and under-TV table, and move the brass-trimmed cabinet under the TV.

I'd add softness to the room by putting drapes on either side of each patio doors. Solid colour linen-texture, to match the walls. Then put the large colourful artwork on the wall between the 2 doors, by itself.

Where you have the brass-trimmed cabinet now, make that a gallery wall of black and whites.

On the TV wall, TV could go a bit lower, on one side of the brass-trimmed cabinet, and a tall lamp on the other side. Nothing else on that wall.
