there are two pass thrus cut into the walls..above the sink and above the trash can. that is why things are hanging around on the countertops...you dont have good wall storage ..and the counter inches available for actual kitchen/ cooking activities are too few . the small dark cart is obviously meant to help , but it symbolizes the inadequate kitchen that exists. You should get a new plan . If you cant do it now then plan for it in a few years. I would not spend money on this. If the appliances are working...leave them in place.

Agree with Herb. I'd get a kitchen designer and make a better plan, which would include getting rid of at least one pass thru. Is all that stuff yours or the prior owners? I'd do a ruthless cleanout of everything, esp the stuff on walls. The cabs look nice. Maybe save to have the same wood in your other rooms as the kitchen floors. It's not much space but I think you can do much better - even consult Lowe's or HD to get started. Maybe your appliances can stay, but just be relocated. If you painted your cabs a nice color, the white appliances could be fine. Or just stay with the wood. An entire first floor plan would be helpful and would garner more ideas from the talented people on this site. I'm esp thinking - do you have a dining room? Can you add hidden storage in there, if that is the case?

For now, get rid of the wallpaper and fluorescent light, and then purge and declutter. It will be 1000% more tolerable when there is less busy visuals overpowering you.
