7 thousand to design where the lights go? In the US that's part of the plans. That's seems wildly crazy to me.

It would be exp in ukUK but ppl do pay up to 5k itsit's to do with type of light ambiene etc

An electrical layout print is required for permitting in my State. Task lighting for kitchen work zones is important. Post your floorplan for recommendations. Minimum 450 lumens at the counter for work zones.

I don't do electrical/lighting plans. Not that lighting/electrical aren't important but about 30 years ago I discovered that a LOT of that was changed after the house was dried in. And the electrical/lighting plan sheet best use became something the workers could spread out and eat their lunch on. So I stopped doing them with of course a drop in any fees.

So after the house is framed up, we (meaning owners, the electrician, myself and sometimes a lighting consultant) go thru the house with a can of orange spray paint and mark where everything will be. On a large house that can take a couple of days because time is spent in each room. Much easier to visualize everything when walking through a framed up house.

My experience with electrical plans is similar to Architectrunnerguy's. We mark the locations of the fixtures on the floor centered under their location (a full-scale reflected ceiling plan) during a walkthrough with the client and electrician. That said, a consultation with an experienced lighting designer for any specialty lighting applications like up lighting, under-cabinet lighting, illumination of artwork, etc. is a good investment.
