Hi all,

I have a basement that is empty and ready to set up for hibernation in very long cold winters. I have no furniture or electronics for this room yet. I'm intending this to be a comfy TV room. I just finished ripping out the God-forsaken office style drop ceilings. The only thing I'm 1000% sure about is getting rid of those God-forsaken fluorescent lights and putting decent and adequate lighting in. The rest is basically a blank slate.

Next thing I was going to do is to leave ceiling exposed by spray it all black (taping off copper pipes because I like how they look); then put a crown moulding around the top of the walls with a strip lighting on a dimmer switch behind the moulding.

Carpet will remain (for now anyways).

Style preferences: dark/light contrast; wood grain; metals; leather; stone. Most of my place is painted 'wrought iron' contrasted with a light grey/off white, with wood grains and some leather.

I sketched the floor dimensions indicating North, and also the dotted line is a space set back about 7", was thinking to put the TV there and painting that area 'wrought iron' and keep the rest of the walls white, and put up some art related to nerdy movie interests. Maybe loung chairs like in the example pic (maybe a burnt orange colour) or bean bag sofa?? Maybe mounting game consoles around the tv like in the attached example??

Any advice on the following would be appreciated:

-placement of TV? (65 or 75")?

-style of sofa / sectional, and placement?

-placement of game consoles, coffee table, wall mount vs console

-wall colours, versus seating/coffee table colours?

-pot light versus edison-style lights as main lighting? (I prefer incandescent lights, all other types seem to irritate my eyes but I don't think incandescent are available anymore)
