Do you like having the desk facing that direction? I like to be facing the door - maybe you could have the desk perpendicular to the closet door and still not have window glare. That's how mine is positioned in my home office. Green would look good with the woodwork and carpet, so think about what shade of green and how light/dark to have it and start painting. After that's done, think about new curtains, or substitute shades or blinds. You will have to sample colors to see what works, but here are some to look at to get started. These are all popular colors.

I would paint the room sage green or even celery to brighten it up. I would get a nice area rug in there with some accent colors in it to brighten up the room and make it warmer looking. I would get rid of those pictures and consider maybe a collage of photographs of your family and friends in a nice frame. An aquarium would look nice in there. I would paint the desk teal or navy blue or a dark blue to make it look newer and fresher.

I would turn the desk around, so I could see out the door, leave it the color that it is, and add personality and interest in some colorful art and accessories. It does look blah, and very boring right now. Addition of some color, will make a huge difference, without having to redo the entire room.

I moved my desk as suggested and like it much better. Instead of painting the room, I ordered deep green velvet curtains. I’m wondering if it would look right if I put two pieces of art on this wall or one large one? I’d assumed I’d center the art on the wall, right? My desk is not centered on the wall.

Here are some of the options I’m considering. What do you think?

Moving the desk is such an improvement!!! Love your curtain selection as well. Suggest two panels on each side of window, and hung to cover approx 18” of wall at each side of window. If your budget allows, I vote for the large tapestry in the largest size, 60” x 40” hung centered on the wall behind your desk. It will be more impactful and a nice focal point in the room. The other two art pieces you selected could replace the six black and white framed art pieces on the opposite wall and would warm up that wall a lot. You could bring in more “cozy” and style with a three-light floor lamp with Edison bulbs in the corner by closet, a larger desk lamp, perhaps again using Edison bulbs, a throw blanket or lumbar cushion on your desk chair, and a large tree (faux olive approx 7’ high) in the corner near the window opposite the desk. Also would there be room for an armchair, bench, or two ottomans opposite the desk?

Thank you! I love the idea of having a chair in the corner. I’ll look into a larger desk lamp and a floor lamp. Thank you for your advice on the larger piece of art behind my desk. I moved my desk closer to the closet so it’s centered on the wall. I think that helps!
