If you top it this year it will need to be topped again repeatedly in the future. Landscapers encourage homeowners in northern Virginia to top crapes because they will have steady work (and income) pruning the trees. The trees look awful as a result.

A disease (scale & sooty mold) is weakening/killing crapes in the southern US. If you aren't happy with your tree, don't replace it with another crape, choose something else.

I agree with the above. From your pictures there is no need to trim the CM. There appear to be no structures or power lines for it to interfere with. Keep it trimmed so you can mow around it and enjoy a tree covered with a beautiful flowers.

Here in Texas we call that Crepe Murder. There is no reason to trim them.

Tree is not overgrown in any way and threatens no power lines or structures or anything else.

The as I said let it go. It will take some time but a beautiful tree full of flowers will be a plus to your home
