what do the 3 openings on the second floor go to? One room, a couple?

IF it were mine... I would open them up to full size french doors. for max natural light.

I would remove the solid stairway wall and replace with a simple rail (a style to compliment YOUR home style.)

A medium tone wood floor throughout. Nix the Black leather sectional. or move it to a casual room.

a proper size TV ... if that will be a TV viewing space.

Window covering to keep the view but control .heat and UV are solar shades I would suggest on those big window to look at motorized shades . What are you wanting for floors? The big wall just treat it like a normal height wall Do you love the "windows" on that wall? As for the staircase that will require a good staircase pro to tackle it is complicated to redo staircases. If you give up more info we can help more. Post all info or more pics in camments here DO NOT start another post . If you are planning a bigger TV then I would suggest you look at Besta from Ikea it can be put together to look custom and you get some storage , the TV any size and A bit of display if you need it.These are just some ways to use Besta

Design the entertainment center to fill the wall up to the height of the windows.

That space has a lot of volume and you're about to make some significant investments - are you open to working with a local designer? There are a lot of pieces that need to come together and that type of expertise would really help

IMO wood look tile is alread dated and no matter what you choose those old tiles will need to be removed so why not something a little less hard on feet, legs and backs. ? I for sure would not do an entertainment center up to those weird windows for sure The less attention you bring to those the better You will need to find out if closing them off will affect your heating and cooling .I do think you will need adesigner for a lot of the things you want to do so a good idea to get one now.

The big, blank wall in the first photo is just begging for a huge piece of artwork. That IMO would be really impactful in the overall design.

Lyn - The three windows up top open up to a loft area. One full bathroom and two bedrooms up there. I picture that area as a chill out space for overnight guests - the view is beautiful up there

We are working on the upstairs. Almost done with bathroom. Yes, I know gray is out but here we are 😀. I lean towards a clean minimalist modern look

a rough example, but with your flex space upstairs, this would be a beautiful change without loosing natural light and adding a dramatic visual from the lower level.

I like that. The big wall is load bearing. That might be an issue
