IMO they should be linear LEDs and recessed in the cove. Why have a tray ceiling detail if you don't illuminate it?

Please show us a picture of your tray ceiling if it's different than what Beverly is showing. I agree with her theory. I don't think you usually need recessed lighting in a MB, but without seeing your room I don't know whether this is the right answer for you. I prefer to have one central fixture and then use lamps as that type of light is cozier. A bedroom only needs to be really well lit when you're cleaning - and then it's usually daytime. I do love having a ceiling fan as that makes the room more comfortable in the summer without having to turn the temp down on the A/C.

I love having recessed lights in bedrooms ... you need good lighting for much more than just cleaning. For example, when going on vacation I might need to sort and pack clothes at night, and one central light fixture and table lamps won't provide enough light.

For my own home, I skipped any tray ceilings and just made the ceilings flat and as high as possible!

I have a really good bright center light in my bedroom that lights up the whole space my room is 20 x15 . I find that is all I need for cleaning, packing or finding something I dropped . I agree if you have a tray ceiling light it up with the linear fixtures as Beverly shows if that is the type you have. I use night table lamps for reading so no need for any other light but I have a flat ceiling
