What's the current flooring? I mean, dogs have been living on wood floors for hundreds of years -- you might as well see if there's damage before replacing. If you hate this or whatever, lots of people promote vinyl plank for dogs. We have a large dog on oak, tile, and carpet, no issues.

IMO wood floors and dogas are never ideal I have 3 huge dogs we have laminate that looks like slate on our main level and LVP in the walk out basement bioth floors are 16 yrs old not one scratch and both clean up in a hurry. Ihad one client who insisted on walnut floors with one huge dog in less than 2 yrs we replaced the floor. My biggest dog weighs 145 lbs no way can he not damage hardwood IMO . I think LVP is awesome for ease of care and the new ones look great ours is the old school but still cleans up and looks new. BTW our dogs have free access to a dog run in all kinds of weather all year. Yes sometimes the floors get dirty from mud it mops up and look like new .
