Living room Sofa layout/design ideas?!?!?

last modified: last year

Hello!

I am looking to purchase furniture for this living area, though I’m not sure what layout and sofa arrangement would look appealing.Should i opt for an assortment of sofas and chairs?

Thinking about something modern, sleek and functional. Any and all design advice/suggestions about the layout, scale and overall selection would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for your time and advice!

Such a pretty space! Do you have another living room closeby? And do you plan on keeping this furniture? Also what's outside the windows? There's a lot you can do - small serving table to the right of the dining table towards the windows. A small lounge area near the windows would also be cute

Thank you so much! Yes, there is another living room on the other side of the fireplace. Also, yes I do plan on keeping the furniture. There’s a road outside the windows, unfortunately!

I was thinking a small lounge area, just not sure what to include. A couple of chairs and a table?

Hey Sanjoli - no problem :) hope you had a good week. For starters, you might want to work with a designer to pre-visualize this furniture in your space, think on it, and then use those to get second opinions on those renderings from your family. Color preferences tend to be pretty personal (significant others/some family members tend to have strong opinions haha). A designer could also help you source locally so you can test the furniture to make sure its comfy. That being said, my final design opinion would depend on the color of the furniture on the other side of the fireplace. From a quick glance, I like the black table + gray chairs, but I think it'd be really cool to consider the black chairs and black table with a matching area rug underneath to set this space apart from the others. The # of chairs, rug type and whether you should even include the table really depends on dimensions of each of these, and that of the space, so another thing to think through/talk about with someone

    Hey @West Village Interior.

Thank you so much for being really helpful. Really grateful! Will definitely take everything you said into consideration and think on it. I like your idea of setting the space apart from the others! The color of the

sofas on the other side of the fireplace is like a light tan in leather.

You're welcome, Sanjoli! Happy to help :)

And in this case, I'd go with darker furniture. Matching colors across furniture sets can be difficult and often leads to mismatching arrangements. The darker theme could be a great way to go. Especially with the area rug, floor lamps and a few other simple furniture items. It'd basically feel like it's own distinct lounge area/room

Thank you so much, West Village Interior!

As you suggested, I did consult with a local designer and he suggested lighter colored furniture. I was leaning towards darker furniture (hadn't seen your post since this site has been so glitchy lately), but my family agreed with the designer and wanted to opt for a lighter colored furniture scheme instead. Majority wins lol! Just like you had mentioned in an earlier post, that family preference sometimes tends to be stronger. The upside is that the lighter tan leather couches sofas will eventually be donated and replaced. Though I don't completely dislike the furniture that was purchased, I am willing to work with it, ha ha! I still love your designer opinion about setting this space a part. The tables are in a black marble and the sofas include a sectional and a chaise. Will attach photos for your reference and hope to receive your feedback as to how to make it look more cohesive, especially with the selection of the area rug and decor pieces!

    Thank you!!!!!!
