I'm looking to build a custom sized table to fit a small space. Bench seating will be on two sides, and I'd like to be able to push the table as close to the bench as possible to save space when not in use. I had the idea to use something that looks like a sit/stand desk frame, but I don't need the height adjustable feature so I wanted to build my own. The finished tabletop size would be 50" x 28".

Can I build this out of wood, or do I need to find someone to make it out of metal for me to be properly supportive?
