options for fake tree

Hello! I needed Something for the corner of this eclectic room and used a fake tree. I would like to remove it, possibly I can rearrange the wire shelves and the chair/ottoman?
Would love to hear your ideas!

This is an updated photo, moved the old gate behind grandma’s chest to make room for my sewing machine.

The 2nd picture is the corner where I had the fake tree behind the chair.

Hi Colleen - this looks like a very interesting & definitely eclectic room indeed! A bonus room, is it? Looks like lots of interesting wall decor. What is that black circular line on floor in last pic? The tree is ok but I agree maybe in different spot - looks a bit lost there. My first impression tweeks are

Move the big chair & ottoman to the tree corner - the other side of sofa. Bring the end table & lamp with it & put between chair & sofa. That chair feels too close to door.

Try the bakers rack on the wall under the air vent. What’s the wooden piece leaning on wall under it?

Console table under TV - move it towards the corner where table & chairs are so it’s centered under the TV. That piece is also too close to door.

Quilt that’s in basket behind rocking horse - Use it as a throw on couch to add texture to couch - the solid green against solid black of wall could use more ’texture’. See how nice the chair looks against black wall?

I’d like more interest in items hanging on wall over couch - try one of each of the big floral prints on each side of mirror that’s there. Or, try the 2 birds on wood - one each side. Gives the wall more drama & colors pop on the black.

The photos on the bakers rack are really lost - Is there a corner by the table & chairs that you can hang all the photos as a gallery display? Or, that wooden piece I asked about - can photos in frames be hung on it? Is there a wall space we can’t see to hang that big wood piece? Mostly I’d like the various wall arts & items to be displayed as collections of like items so they’re not so spread out & have more impact.

What room is this in your home? I see no windows, and what looks to be storage in the yonder?

Can you tell us what look you're after?

I think you may be tripping yourself up. How? It appears you are trying too hard to fill space and walls, and it got a bit too eclectic, no real message . The dark accent wall compounds the effect, making the expanses of blank drywall bother you yet more.

If you have an inspo of the dream space ? Post it down below.

Okay Colleen - I see you were moving furniture while I was posting! That’s a window not air vent & that piece of wood is a gate. Big chair looks great in that corner. A light is needed there - can you move the table & lamp to where the trunk is? It seems better suited as a side table. I’d move the cute green cabinet to the side of couch where wooden rocker is & move rocker back towards corner. Slide the bakers rack down the wall to allow more room for positioning of chair / ottoman / side table / sofa. That might provide room to slide couch further away from sewing machine & open up corner for green cab & wooden rocker - might allow opening of sewing cabinet without moving stuff.

What’s the other corner where glass table & chairs sit look like?

Ok, so this is the basement bonus room. There are windows in the wall between this room and the workout room to get some natural light from those windows. The black circular line is an accident that happened when editing the picture 🙃. The glass table is used for board game.
The door by the tv is the storage room. I tried the quilt on the sofa, maybe someone can tell me how to place it better…but it’s very bulky king size quilt. I centered the tv cabinet, I’m not sure the the picture to the right works now though?
The room is a bit difficult because it’s rather long.
The white wall to the right of the sofa is my sewing area, I need that wall bare for hanging up my quilt pieces.
I agree, the pictures on the wire shelves don’t work, I have the kids books but they don’t fill it up…it needs lightweight objects. I think I could put some of the photos on the old gate.
I am adding current photos to clarify.

Your changes look great. Yes, the chickens still work to right of TV & TV looks better with console centered under it. The quilt is so pretty - open it up to a wider panel so it shows more of it. The sofa color shows it beautifully. Quilts get better with use, yes? Those photos you moved to desk top could go on top of console under TV - they don’t look too tall. The bakers rack - will it fit on wall under window behind the glass game table? May need to move table out a bit but looks like there’s room especially since chairs can be pushed in when not in use. Store the board games on the bottom shelves of bakers rack & if any have pretty box covers & tops will stay on, stand them up to display games on upper shelves. If rack doesn’t work, try the gate leaning on that wall. Maybe find a way to attach framed photos to it without damaging. That side & corner of room is so ’lightweight’ compared to the other side of room with heavier furniture & black wall so I’m looking for pieces to balance & add interest. Maybe even try putting the trunk on that wall & move the table + lamp down to that space. Frees up more wall space for quilt pieces at sewing machine end. I do understand that part of quilting - my home is filled with quilts my mom made - on beds & a quilt rack with smaller ones - lap size - on my sitting pieces. My mom also had a sewing room & a free wall to hang up pieces - or the flat sheet the pieces were pinned to. This is a great room you have. I do like the rug in there too.

You definitely need some table or floor lamps to give this space a more comfortable ambience. When you have added them, you might not need more "decor".

I like Paul’s ideas for coffee table and pillows so i borrowed his rendering. A floor lamp either in the corner or next to sofa could be nice. I think you could use either a white shade or a black shade. The lamps don’t have to match.

It’s a fun room. You’ve made nice choices. And I love the gold mirror. Your current pillows are nice; the solid black pillows are sleek and also showcase your art a bit more, I think.

I suggest swapping out the artificial tree you have in the corner for a bigger one----try a ficus like the one in this picture I included and string some miniature lights on it. At Christmastime I put colored lights on it and ornaments.

One side of the room is dark and one side light, so it seems unbalanced. Maybe paint the Tv wall black, also

This is in the basement with little natural light, so I just wanted one wall black. I have considered painting some of the other walls a shade of green, maybe the wall with the door and windows to the workout room.
I could try a different tree but I was hoping to try something different in that corner. Love the lights!

    This was my inspiration photo.

My furniture pieces are good quality, we downsized and I wanted to go eclectic for a room that doesn’t get used much. I have considered using a lime green on some of the other walls or paint a few feet of the black on the white walls next to the sofa to wrap it a bit, for now I hoped to lose the fake tree😉

Colleen, IMO you’re making very good use of your pieces after downsizing. I thought the sofa & chair + 1/2 looked to be nice quality & comfy so the room has appeal. I’m not sure about adding lime green on walls but I’m thinking that short wall the bakers rack is on might be great in black. It would ’unite’ that area & the small green cabinet would look great against it. I’m still voting to try the bakers rack over by the game table & chairs either on same wall as TV or around corner under the window. It would ’unite’ that area too.

I’ve been measuring the wire rack for how it would fit by the game table, it is a few inches taller than the bottom of the window so I’m thinking I’d move the chicken picture under the window and the wire rack were the chicken pictures now. The chicken will tie in with the rusty forks there.
I think I would be OK with scooting the little green cabinet, and those two bird pictures a little closer to the chair if the wall seems to bare without the wire rack. I’m going to switch the pieces on each end of the couch and see if that balance of things out.

Great! I’ll be looking for updated pics. I love that little green cabinet. I think the chicken art will look great under the window & the bakers rack is so open that it will be good on TV wall. Fingers crossed!

I was going to suggest putting the Baker’s rack beside TV. It makes sense by table. Creates shelf for games etc on bottom shelf possibly in baskets? Then a few accessories on upper shelves. I like pairing some lime green but not on walls. Just a pillow or two. It looks cozy and inviting and if possible I would do a larger rug. That will anchor seating area and provide more warmth in basement situation

    Here I go😊
-I have moved the wire shelves to the tv wall with the game table and loaded it with games. Feels a bit messy to me but the kids won’t have to go in the store room to get them now. The table is a little tight but it easily slides out when it’s being used.
-Moved the chicken picture, I love that there.
-Switched the trunk and grandmas chest beside the couch.—hopefully with the lamp and wood gate relocated I can eliminate the tree.
-Pictures are below the tv, I think it looks a bit cluttered and I need to replace some frames… *or maybe hang them on the wall where the 2 wood bird pictures are would be
    better.
-Moved the small green chest closet to the chair 1/2, I will move the bird picture’s over the chest

Absolutely love it!! The game table corner looks so much more purposeful & the room looks very balanced. Love the colorful games on the bakers rack, photos on console etc. etc. The lamp & table is much better on side with big chair. Your sewing corner looks more spacious / functional for its purpose. Did I say I love the result? 😁 This has been a fun thread - Thanks Colleen for sharing your space & being so gracious about all the myriad of advice it generated.

P.S. I’ll bet those games get more use being out where they can be seen & easily accessed. And, looks like moving them to rack must’ve opened up some space in the store room. Win-Win!!

Thank you all so much!!! This space really needed some help, and I love how it feels more cozy and more spacious at the same time.
The games should get more use now, some of them have never been opened!
Big improvement for the sewing space, happier all the way around😊

OK, I just have to say again I am really excited and really appreciate all your comments and advice❤️

Looks so much better but I'd still like to see a new coffee table or just paint that one.

It’s a nice wood table; it’s just not working in this space, imo.

And I think an oval shaped table is actually better for your space, as Paul showed in his first rendering .

An oval table in a dark grey or black. Or if you prefer wood, a dark wood like walnut. I think something along those lines would be better.

I see a darker table could be better,
    Maybe I’d paint it…thanks!
