front stairs patching issue

Anyone have any ideas how to make this gap between my Wrought iron stairs and my house look better? The stairs are totally structurally sound—thousands of pounds and not in the slightest wobbly. But over the 100 plus years the stairs have been there, they have pulled away from the house. I’ve talked to a few stairs painters and the only thing that someone suggested was getting the caps unstuck from the pole and reattaching them to the house. But that is very hard to do, as it is decades of paint holding them in the current place. So I’m wondering if there is something I can do to cover the gap so it just looks better. Thanks for any ideas!
