Any idea why our floors turned out this color?

I feel awful saying this but I hate our newly renished floors. We wanted to keep the natural look of the red oak wood and picked out a stain that we thought would do that. It looks completely different. Contractors assured the right stain was used. Any ideas what happened? Unfortunately we will have to live with it but I cant’t stand looking at them (I know I sound overly dramatic).

Thank you!! I feel like they look dated and too warm/rich for the cooler green cabinets but I’ll try taking your word for it. I appreciate you!

Your floors are beautiful. In fact the whole place is lovely. Looks like you’re about to update the fireplace. Would love to see what you do there.

@Hellogardener good eye! And thank you! We’re doing a full gut and remodel but keeping the bones of the house, including the fireplace. It is in the middle of the room between the living room and the dining room. We are converting it so it is visible from both sides. It was closed up originally.

warm and rich is what wood is supposed to look like. I wish I had those floors.

As mentioned, your oil base poly canceled out your light stain. Contractor should know to use a water base poly with light and pastel colors.

Pale cool grayed colors are OUT. Warm realistic wood tones is what is IN. What you have has much better style longevity, and will outlast the trends.

SM what are your floors and where did you get them?

@lluvdark, they came from a company near us, Mount Hope Planing in Mt Hope OH. They manufacture the flooring themselves. Don’t know where you’re located, but they do have a website and showroom.
They’re white oak, mixed 3” , 4” and 5” widths with mini micro bevel and finished in their “Almond” stain with natural effect finish

    Your floors are gorgeous!!!

The other thing to keep in mind is that no matter what color they are now, they are going to change anyway - particularly a brand-new floor. I had a nice white oak installed in a new build about 10 years ago now, and the color they are today is very different from the color when they were installed.
