I would not enjoy sitting 8'6" from the TV and having to look up above the fireplace to see the TV.

Written by a person who would never sit in the front row of a movie theater or anywhere closer than the middle. Disregard if you are one of the few people who actually likes the front row!

It’s terrible to design a fireplace wall with TV intentionally tacked onto rocks at a bad viewing height.
If you’re in planning stage hopefully you can do something better. Maybe skip the fireplace? Create TV space to one side? In any event, carefully consider the room dimensions and openings/ doors/ windows so that you are designing the furniture placement at the same time.

Just to give you a feel for sizing, this is DD’s fireplace wall with similar dimensions. The fireplace is 6’10 and cabintets are 4’6”.

I went asymmetrical with approximately 7’ fireplace and 8’ of cabinets.

note that mojomom's TV is about three feet lower than if it had to be installed over the fireplace -- it would be even better sitting on its console. if you have freedom over fireplace placement, I'd make it off-center so you have space for a larger TV on one side.

Those shelves are way too busy.
