Animal got into attic ...

An animal pushed past the mesh covering on one of the venting holes (located under the eave of the house) and kicked out a bunch of insulation. In retrospect, I heard a noise in that part of the house on the day I noticed it, but I haven't heard it since. Two questions:

a) Do I need to worry that there's still an animal in my attic if I haven't heard from it since then?

b) What's the best way to secure the venting hole now that it's open.

As an aside, I don't have a ladder tall enough to get into my attic as the only entrance to it is through the garage, so I haven't checked it out myself yet.

I don't have a clue what that is in picture but it probably doesn't matter. The answer to A & B is do a little detective work BEFORE closing the entry point. Put thread,paper tape or something over hole that easy for animal to break if it enters/exits. Monitor hole for 3 days and if it's still intact close it up same way as other vents are closed.. If thread/tape is busted, have someone (you,your secret lover or pest control specialist) set a Conibear trap in opening to snag the varmint before closing hole.

Put new screening over the hole from the inside, and make sure it is metal screen, not fiberglass type, once you have determined that nothing is in your attic.
