Sorry not there or your backsplash IMO was never a good plan for interiors and one good splash of spagetti sauce will cure you on this for a backspalsh .I think as awall up to the ceiling will look really heavy and how will you ever clean it . Paint the wall a great color so much nicer IMO.

I agree with Patricia, that stone doesn’t match the look and feel of your cabinets and counter. And definitely do not tile up past the cabinets! Maybe look at a nice glass subway tile.

I definitely wouldn't put the tile above the cabinets, If you feel like the space is empty and maybe missing something you can always add some decor, a vase or something. I also agree with other comments that you might want to rethink this type of a stone for your backsplash.

Hi! I don't think that's a type of tile that's intended for a kitchen backsplash. As everyone else have pointed out, it would be a nightmare to clean and would be susceptible to more bacteria and mold build-up (the stone looks porous in the photo). You should go for polished/semi-polished ceramic or porcelain tiles. Something that you know food, sauces, and oils would easily come off when you wipe it clean. Usually its indicated if the tile can be used for kitchen walls, etc. - something to keep in mind when you're sourcing.

I don’t think that works as a backsplash in any kitchen, sorry.

Time to think again. Legerstone is not the solution for a backsplash.

@darbuka absolutely agree. I am fully aware that Quartz is "fake" but unfortunately some of us cannot afford the real deal. As to my already bland kitchen. Obviously its a work in progress.

MC I do have one suggestion. I also have vaulted ceilings in my Florida kitchen.

The designer created a bridge between the two and added two lights to give it furthur purpose.

I don’t have a photo further back, but you get the idea.

Also, will you be adding crown molding on the cabinets?

We went with a 3x12 gray ceramic tile.

There are many tiles with color variations. A popular one is Bedrosian Chloe in white. It has grays, whites, off ehite that you stagger.

I would also say no to using the stone as backsplash because it is impossible to wipe or keep clean in any way. I think you can achieve a similar look with tile.

As to tiling above the cabinets, I'd say no as well. What will your hood look like over the range?

re: tiling above the counters - I like the airiness that the vaulted ceiling gives the room and I think a tile might compromise that feeling - so my vote would be to have them just below the cabs & behind the range

(def ignore the haters - I imagine them sitting in a basement somewhere with no friends, best to just feel bad for them)

+1 with la_la Girl - had similar structure in my previous kitchen and did not go above upper-cabinets trim for backsplash:

If you are looking to introduce some interest - you could do an accent backsplash behind/above the range (see above). But in any case - I'd definitely re-consider doing a tile backsplash rather than a stone one, as others recommended here.

If you are looking for a rustic look - you can do a brick-looking/stone-looking tile, or something similar to that? I've just installed this super-rustic stone-looking tile in my currently-renovated kitchen as backsplash and I'm very happy with it.

MC i dudnt realize that is your stove below. You will get a hood to fill that space.

Then just tile below the cabinets and across..

We had ledger stone as a backsplash before starting a remodel and I loved it, it was unique and Beautiful….however, that being said our stove top was in our island so I didn’t have to worry about splashes on it from the stove. That would have prevented me from getting it. Good luck, I’m sure whatever you choose will turn out fantastic!

You don't show the whole wall--if you can do the stone on the entire wall, corner to corner, floor (or counter) to ceiling, it could look awesome. The idea would be a stone wall with a kitchen placed in front of it. I would still use something else behind the stove because you can't clean that stuff easily.

I agree with @iri do or do not...partway could be problematic. Not without a solution though. Create a cabinet-depth bump-out where the kitchen ends and stop the stone there. I wouldn't want the cleaning challenge, because my hubby-cook splatters on all of the backsplash, not just around the stove. But I would encourage you anyway if you are set on it. Stone is beautiful wherever it is. Another smoother stone looking option is Emser Kudos indigo porcelain tile. Just a thought .. maybe misses the mark for you.

So sounds like your hood will match the cabinets? And take up the whole space between the cabinets? If that's the case, I would not extend stone/tile over cabinets.

BTW, the colors and pattern of the stone you picked look great in your kitchen, you have a good eye. So you should look for something similar in a different material that will be suitable/practical for a backsplash.

@izeve The hood I love the ”shape” of is the narrow stainless ones so you can see stone or tile behind it. I would like to have that made in white. They are just so pricey. As far as the splash - I suggest getting a sample that you can keep and splash stuff on it, let it sit for days and see how it is to clean. Stacked stone, while beautiful, can be a beast. You can look into MSI ( if available in your area ) . They have a porcelain tile panel, that looks like stacked stone but is much easier to install and maintain.

I like the idea of doing more wall than just the splash - it would be a big statement and you would have to love your tile choice.

I tried to do a mock up for you ( I am not very good at them ) - you don't have to do the whole wall but you would go about a foot or 2 more to the left of the cabinets. Maybe use the island as a guide.

There seems to be a nose-in-the-air snobbery by the stoners. "But it's naaatuurrraaallll". So big deal. 80% of natural stone would be unsuitable for countertops if it wasn't for the decidedly unnatural resins that are sucked into the slabs at the processor or the all natural fiberglass that's slapped on the back so it can survive shipping and fabrication. Then there's the last coat of all natural sealer.

It’s your kitchen, and absolutely you should get what you love. That said, I don’t think a quartz waterfall peninsula and rustic stone really work together- the styles are quite disparate- but perhaps I’m mistaken that I see the waterfall countertop in the photos…
