Kitchen design help

Hello! I could really use some help with our kitchen design. We’re breaking ground next week, so need to work within this shape. I had planned for an island, but I’m now wondering if the one I had on the plan will be too awkward and deep. The more I think of it, the more I believe island seating is important to me. We currently have three children and hope to have more. Should I stick with the current island and just accept I can only put two chairs on the end? I really don’t want any of the walkways to be crowded. Or should I make the island longer, but more narrow at the end and put four stools that can be pushed in. Lastly, should I give up the island dream and do the peninsula? Our kitchen sink wall will be all windows and no uppers, so that would be a pretty view for those sitting. I would like peninsula to fit four chairs, so would a 8’ (with joining counter included) x4’ deep be a good size? That leaves 4-5’ feet in between sink and peninsula and 4’-5’ in between fridge and edge of peninsula. Thank you!

Leave plan as is with two stools at edge

    make an L shaped kitchen - put fridge on sink wall, then make a longer slightly narrower island. i’d also put dw on other side of sink so it’s not in your prep space.

    I would move the fridge to the wall beside the sink then you could hav a narrower island with seating along the wall where you had the fridge you should be okay IMO the space is too wide to have the peninsula I would d 48" walkway in front of range 36" iland with stools on long side and that allow s a good sized walkway behind the stools no way would I ever put stools on 2 sides of the island.

    put the fridge on the back wall next to the pantry. Mive dw to be between sink and frdge. Turn island 90 degrees and put chairs along back. That will now make your island just shy of 6’ long.

    @Buehl

    Thank you! This is very helpful. Do you think I’d have room to add one more stool to the island on the pantry side with this setup?

    Also, just out of curiosity, why would you not choose the peninsula option?

    Lastly, could fridge go on the edge of range side? and scoot range down?

    Thank you!!

    Peninsulas are sometimes a necessary evil in a small kitchen. They look great (open), but they close off traffic flow, especially if they're long.

    We are currently in the process of remodeling to move from a U-shape kitchen with a 10' long peninsula to an L + island, as it is a constant fight to get anything into or out of the kitchen walking around the @*#& peninsula!

    If you want good work flow then NO you cant move fridge. Why? Because when we cook, we take food out of the fridge move it to the sink to rinse and then move it to prep between the sink and cooktop, before moving it to the cooktop to cook. And ideally you dont want to cross the different zones If you want to move the fridge near the cooktop then ideally you would want a prep sink on the island

    this certainly makes sense—thank you! I am a little worried the fridge is too much in a corner now and will be a bit of a jaunt from the dining area behind the kitchen, but having the work zones flow together is likely more important
