Creating Your Own Indoor Plant Collection Database

So, i'm not an Access programmer - just an enthusiast. I have ~150 different plants - tropicals, ferns, and a variety of succulents including cacti.

Since each plant has its own unique soil, watering, fertilizing and light needs - i needed a place to store all this information, where i can also keep growth pictures taken over time to show successes/failures. Excel did nothing for me so I put together a simple Access Database.

If anyone is interested in trying it out, message me and I can email you a copy if interested. It is pretty easy to use and i'm looking for feedback to make it better or easier to use/navigate.

Very nerdy! I love it! How do you look up a plant in your databse?

Is there a search field?

Did you create an alphabetical index?

The plant database is designed alphabetically by the Genus name, or you can search by Genus, Species or other keyword. Yes nerdy for sure - lol I so am.

When you enter a new plant into the database, the database automatically arranges the entry alphabetically, so you can scroll forward or backward through all the plant records in alphabetical order or just search a specific plant.

I have books. The Western Garden Book is my go to. Also succulent books, vege books.....Sorry. I'm a book/plant nerd!

I love it! I know there are phone apps that do this but I'm more of a PC/laptop person. I currently have my list in Excel and yes there are huge limitations. I don't have Access or I might be interested. In any case, it's a wonderful tool for you! Keep on nerding.

im impressed by the size of your collection .. and i wonder why you have never posted any pix in the house plant forum ....
