I think that your home has had some additions over time. I bet it was a “ranch” and the left side had a two story addition. What would I call it? Country Cottage. Or whatever you want to call it.

Homes built in the late forties were post war. Simple, inexpensive, and a lot were built with the V A loans. Over the years, additions were made.

Hi, your house has the deep roof and square-ish look of a Salt Box house. Popular in the North East and along the shores. The peaked roof of the front section and the raised seam overhang are a little bit Cape Cod and a little bit Edwardian (the overhang portion). Another feature is the window grill in the picture window. I'm not sure of any of this, but I'm especially not sure of that window. The open field in the center is reminiscent of a late Victorian window. Overall my guess is that the house was originally confined to left hand side and other portion was an addition.............?

Thanks everyone. Yes, this house has had FOUR additions. I'm thinking (when they do the roof) that we might want to add a portico over the doorway and replace the copper metal seam. Yes? No? @ncreature - would you just take off the shutters and leave the windows "plain" on that side? I wish I could add dormers on that BIG roofline but they would have to be fake per our contractor.

I don't know what you decided, but I think the little awning over the front door is perfect as it is.

You have a Minimal Traditional, also known as the American Small House or Post-War Cottage, with what looks like a major addition on the back. Very popular 1930s-50s, with boxy shapes, 1 -1 1/2 stories, simple gables, minimal overhang, tight floorplans, picture windows, often flanked by operable windows, small canopies and light fixtures. Your house has a bit more overhang and a more prominent front gable than is typical (more like a house from the 1930s), and some Colonial Revival flourishes.

Cape Cod is a subset of Minimal Traditional, but they did not have front-facing gables. The first photo is a c. 1950 Cape Cod. Houses from the 40s are frequently cozy and cute, with nice little traditional touches, like windows with munitns, shutters, paneled doors, lattice like porch supports, cheery but small kitchens, ect... Ranches came in the 1950s, and the early ones frequently looked like a Minimal Traditional with a garage added on the side, instead of detached in the back.

Have no idea what style home you have, but it is adorable, including the lot and circle drive. Because it is so cute, we should be able to see the entire front, but the small tree on the home's left is covering it - maybe a little trim?
