I get what you're saying! My understanding is that because the smart sprinklers are more targeted and trigger earlier, the requirements for well pressure and size are lower so you don't need a standalone tank or well upgrade. Am asking for advice from those familiar with the systems. Thanks!

"Smart" sprinkler systems may use less water to extinguish fires, but in order for them to be effective, you need a reliable water supply. I don't think a residential-duty well and pump will suffice since power to them may be interrupted during a fire when they're needed most. Check with the applicable codes in your area.

A better solution, now required in many places even on "city" water where fire suppression is mandated, is to install a fairly large tank (eg 500 gallons) and pump system to ensure volume and pressure to the fire suppression system. No home well I've ever met can provide the flow required. If you can pump from a pond that would be an alternate solution.

At best a sprinkler system could extinguish a fire. At worst it might delay the fire progression until the fire department arrives. I would think/hope a well system would remain intact sufficiently long enough to provide the needed delay in progression.

Look up local fire sprinkler companies. They are typically "design-build" and will understand the system needed.

A google search of "fire protection contractors in my area" should return the names of a couple of local contractors. Just make sure you're sitting down when you get the pricing.

I restored an historic hotel once and we used a swimming pool as part of the fire suppression system. Check with your local code official and/or fire marshal.
