If you want it to not stain, and be resistant to normal etching, you get a commercial grade epoxy in a matte sheen applied. That is not stuff you find at a box store. It's warehouse forklift wear grade. Or, you could just skip all that and do a porcelain tile that looks like concrete. We are interested in doing this to our new house. And it looks to be something that most folks with a little diy ambition could easily handle. A lot of information on the internet. And if we didn't like it we could always do something different.

What will you do when that concrete slab cracks? Expansion cracks will develop if there are no expansion joints placed at the time of installation.

IMO better and cheaper to select large format porcelain tile that looks like concrete to be installed over your slab. It will naturally repel stains, and provide you with an even colored appearance if that is your desire.

Any concrete slab can be ground and polished. If the slab is uneven, you'll see more variation in the appearance of the finish. If the slab has cracks, it will still have cracks after polishing. A quality slab has control joints, usually sawn, that provide for controlled cracking.

Don't forget the thick rubber soled shoes to releive heel bruising and shinsplints.
