If possible, clean out/reorganize the kitchen cabinets (there is a lot of storage in that kitchen) so that all kitchen items are stored in the kitchen cabinets, including the beverage bar items, the pet food bins, and the pantry staples on the bookshelves. The book shelves could display books, family photos, and decorative items/storage. If you manage to free up enough space in the island, the bottom of the island on the blue wall side could be used for shoe storage. The bench seems awkward in front of the baseboard heater and in the pathway from the entry door. Maybe some decorative plates or framed favorite recipes or the family organization chart could be arranged on that wall. A small table/chairs in front of the blue wall with some artwork there would feel more appropriate for that space and could also function as a spot to sit down and put on your shoes.

The wall color is not the issue, it's everything else going on. Lighting, throw rugs, little stuff everywhere, etc.

We used to have a small table and chairs in front of the blue wall but never used it so decided the coffee bar for something more functional. Unfortunately I need the bookshelf and coffee bar for storage, can't get rid of them

It is said that accent walls can be hard to pull off, I think you're experiencing that. I do like that idea but I don't think it works for our home. I have a coat closet in other room, we just need the storage for shoes and then I wouldn't know what to do with the coffee bar.

The blue is too harsh. Try a sage green on that wall and the door. You can eliminate some of the clutter. Shoe storage like this that sits above the baseboard heat :

I like the sage green idea! Any specific shades? I also like the idea of closing up the shelving but unless there's an easy diy I'd have to wait till I can afford someone to make the doors.

I agree that the blue is quite harsh in the space and a more calming color would suit it better. The size of the bench is too small for that wall in my opinion I would go longer instead of higher and you can mount it on that wall, depending on how much storage space for you shoes you actually need in case you need less maybe some shelves would be nice.

I am not fond of the kitchen wall paint with your cabinets . I would find a light sage green, and repaint, all the walls, and have them the same color. If you really want blue in there, then use a very light tint of blue instead of sage green. The color you have now, doesnt work with the cabinets, and the dark blue wall, looks totally out of place.

A useful wall similar to this inset photo with a shelf/bench mounted above the register, painted in the same color as your wall would be great.

Since you seem to like sage green, take a look at Benjamin Moore Sage tint, and do all the walls with it. No accent wall.

Paint the island cabinet white.

For the blue wall, you need large storage for multi tasks. This one from Amazon is $200.00.

It will give you a coffee bar and a lot more options to enable you to clear up the kitchen. It is on locking rollers for easy clean up.

On the opposite wall, you need another tall piece, but this time with legs to allow for the radiator/heat.
