So, my husband and I recently purchased a new home. We are using a piece that we thrifted off of Craigslist as a console in the living room and I am unsure on how to style it. I have added a picture of it and a few others so you can see how the rest of the room looks/flows.

The budget is tight, so I will mostly be using things that I already have. Any ideas for how/what to group on the top? Scale? Color?

So far, we have painted the walls and just added our own decor, furniture, art. We would like to continue the wood floor from the dining room into this room at some point, but that will not happen until much later.

The feel I am going for is light and airy. Effortless but chic. I also have a 11 month old, so family-friendly living is important. Thank you for your feedback!
