I have seen them often with just favourite cook books . I fyou have nice things to disply for sure but the door could be a bit tricky

This area sits near two exterior doors that's the reason I was looking for door type of cabinet. But I do understand that the shape's a little odd. Cookbooks are one of the options I am considering.

How about placemats, neatly folded napkins, S&P, sugar bowl… the things you’d need near the table in the nook. You could stack or set the items individually on the shelves, or place them in a large decorative bowl

Beautiful salad bowl? soup tourine? Lobster steamer pot? A pretty casserole dish? If it were mine, I would use it for cookbooks but you said you don’t want to put books there.

I have a similar 2-shelf area. I have an attractive large Le Creuset Dutch Oven and a pretty copper pitcher that I store on them, along with just a few cookbooks. Even though I don't use it too often, I am looking to replace my red Dutch Oven with a new Staub Sage or Le Creuset Caribbean colored one. Truly an unnecessary expense, but it would go better with my kitchen! I probably won't though, as I don't really cook enough to justify a replacement.

I love the idea of putting some pots there. What could I use underneath the pot as a placement? I don't want to put it directly on the shelf. Any suggestions on the placement mats?

I like the idea of folded towels and a wicker basket for those ready for the laundry.

They have round placemats. You could get them in a neutral color, or in a splash of color that coordinates with your kitchen.

For under the pots, how about napkins? You can change them for season or to match your tablescape.

remove the shelf and...

Whatever you put there is going to gather dust unless you close it in. You could easily do some dishes, plants, photos or cookbooks.

If you put a pot there and want something under it, I might look for something like this:

I would use that spot for my favorite cookbooks.
