Both are good options.
If you want to introduce color and or pattern you might go with tile, which also can be more modern and easy to maintain.
If you want a more traditional / classic look you might go with hardwood flooring.
With such a large job, which will include cabinets, sinks, faucets, countertops, blacksplash,lighting, etc. not to mention kitchen cabinet layout--you should consider hiring an interior designer or architect.
This is to big a job to not be done with an experienced professional on board.

It depends if the house is open concept it's best to use the same flooring throughout.

I would suggest hardwood, it has more give than tile, so you feel less tired with long periods of standing. Also I think there is less chance of things breaking if they fall. Big consideration for me as I'm a bit of a klutz. Just wipe up any spills immediately so moisture doesn't soak in. Also the continuous flow if you are doing hardwood in the rest of the home is nice

I like tile in the kitchen so I don't have to worry about water drips across the kitchen floor. This is a rather common design dilemma and from previous posts, I assume most will suggest hardwood.

You can find a tile that mimics the look of hardwood, if you are concerned with water damage.
