I like the wood idea but would keep the grain as simple as possible. are these real wood or a veneer laminate type of vanities?

Are you firm on having a wood vanity? If yes, there is a brown in your lovely terrazzo that can be considered. Look for something with very quiet grain.

Or you can go with something that allows you to paint it to match the tile. The feel of your bathroom is “cool”, which is why a different type of vanity might work better.

Thanks Beth! The floor is Ann Sacks - Terrazzo Renata in Cashmere. I should have been more adventurous but it exactly the same tile as my primary bathroom. I was told using 3 different tiles was not a good idea but I love it and can't picture losing one of them and being as satisfied with how it looks.

The vanity is not made yet. It will likely just be 36" real wood, two drawers of equal size mounted 12 inches off the floor. I have found a very nice high pressure laminate called Rehau that is almost indestructible but it is almost as much as real wood so I'm torn.

I was thinking more like this. I'll have to have an open section on the right for rolled up towel to order to open the drawers with the door open since it is in the way.

I was going to do some great light fixtures but I'm getting feedback about doing zen flush lighting especially in the primary bathroom... the Kohler Maxstow 3.5 inch deep (22"x40") medicine cabinet has integrated lighting (plugs inside too).

Is it a cool tone bathroom? The tile has this brown ring like Japanese tea cup... It feels both warm and cool. If I were to paint the vanity... or walls, what color would you suggest?

yes, these are cooler bluish tones.

it does have some warm componants, but overall, it's cool.

I'd keep the wall color sedate since the tile is leading the parade.

I've used this one in my home. it's more of a grayish white, not too warm or cold.

Compared to Tundra which picks up the blue gray in the floor tile.

what you could do is a simple white on the walls and use the wrought iron on the door.

Or, the trim. Or, how about the ceiling?

I like the vanity you posted Paul - or the last one Beth posted. it picks up some of the warm from the floor. The BM Calm color Beth posted seems like a good one to test.

Edited - Beth keeps posting more vanities :) so, not the last one - I think the white isn't as nice as the wood.

I'd determined to keep as much off the floor and that the furniture have clearance enough for a robot vac/mop. The wall are pretty much "Simply white" color now... I was thinking of a color like BM Calm but now with the cool/warm question I need to think about it. Its kind of balanced I think... this flooring I almost picked would have made it icy cool for sure.

IMO keep it all really simple now way too much going on in that space already .I would just use on of the tiles you already have for thta wall/

For paint color, I'd get as close as possible to the color of the lighter gray tile in your shower. That would make the space feel most cohesive.

I agree with ffpalms, either that color wood or a not too stark black with minimal texture so as not to compete with the tile. Also think the wall, since it's the only white aside from the toilet, should be the color of the lighter tile. Then bring in some art for the wall. I would have loved to see a gray or dull black toilet. If you paint the wall and have dark counter and sink, aside from the ceiling, it will be the only white in the room. You don't really have room for sconces or ceiling hung pendants at the sink, but I feel the room needs a bit of something, everything is very flat and square and subdued. Think about a pendant above the mirror in a geometrical shape in a muted color. Blue or green, but very subtle. Then something on the blank wall. Could be art or a sculpture of some sort. Your bathroom is very zen. A sculptural wood piece with either succulents or air plants could be a wow factor. I really love your floor!! Good luck and choose carefully, the missing pieces are going to be important to the overall look and feel of the room. How is your kitchen coming along? Are you done with the rest of the house? It's an awesome house inside and out.

Is the wall wavy by the window or is it a bad photo? If it is wavy (there is no shame in that), I'd do the wall a gray to de-emphasize it.

Your comment that it’s “cool and warm” is accurate. I like some of the wood vanities that Beth posted. They definitely push the “warm” feel. I’m ambivalent about the reeded style with your tiles. Either they’re perfect or they’re wrong. Hard to tell from photos. I’m surprised by how much a soft black vanity looked just right. Maybe not the exact black Beth posted - a tad softer black. The wood vanity with the black top is a good brown. I also liked the wood tone of the one after it (the one with six drawers, two doors and a light colored top). Mostly I was judging the tones of the wood and not the styles of the vanities. Both count, of course.

The walls need to go whichever way the vanity leans. Using a wood one, keep the walls a warmer white. However, I wouldn’t try to pick the wall paint until the room is finished. Lighting has to be installed, for sure.

You asked about medicine cabinets with a built in light. My opinion is they’re awful for doing make up and some of those lights cast a blue tinge I don’t love. May not be an issue for you…. 😉. I prefer softer lighting in a bathroom, but that’s completely my own prejudice.

I love this bathroom so far. Great tile choices, which are the hardest part of creating a great bathroom.

Its a 100 year old house so it was quite a chore to get the bathrooms perfectly plum but we did it... so no wavy walls. The medicine cabinet was a last minute decision and since it is only 3.5 inches deep I was considering it... even if I have to make the vanity an inch or two deeper. It is 3000k light but this pic does make it look like a blue light.

I could get a single pendant hanging from the ceiling dead center of the mirror easily but everything else not so easy. I had the electrician put a single box right in the center of the wall for a lighted mirror.

In another thread I posted asking for help picking fixtures for my primary bathroom with same tile everyone said that the tile should be the star and just basically make the lighting as plain and non-intrusive as possible. I had big plans for some great lights but I see what people are saying.

I guess I basically wanted a busy bathroom, in the way a vintage Chanel suit is busy. I attempted a small textured textile looking tile, fringe seam tile, masculine and feminine/cold and warm. I think Asian zen slipped into it along the way. I love it, I go in there now just to rub my hands on the tile. Haha. I know I can ruin the whole thing with the wrong vanity though.

People responded well to my little mood board that had walnut with the tile 9 months ago so I thought it was a done deal. Maybe not.

This HPL sample comes very close to the oak outside the bathroom.

Maybe I could have a wall hung box made and have white... or charcoal gray doors put on?

100-percent the first walnut you posted. It is a handsome, an incredible color with your tiles, and plays wonderfully with the big chunks of black and brown in your flooring. The lighter West Elm piece kind of washes everything down to more of a ho-hum experience.
