Has anyone in a low humidity climate installed glue down vinyl? If so, did you leave any spaces between the planks?

I met with an installer today and his suggestion was to leave gaps between each plank to allow for expansion and then seal with a clear coat, but seems like a nightmare to clean and doubt this would be proper install for warranty (gaps and another material on top as a sealer), but this is new to me. Everything I’ve seen online has planks tightly fit together with only a expansion gap on perimeter.
