Help with curtains

I have just moved into a new house and need living room curtains for privacy. I have taken down the layers the previous owner had up and have left the sheers for the time being but really need new curtains soon. I want to open/close daily. The main problem is the air vent is in/on the wall as seen in the lower left portion of the picture. I am thinking an off-white textured curtain but love hearing other ideas. I normally would also place the rod near the ceiling and have the hems touch the floor but the vent would then be blocked. As to style, we lean more MCM (with 2 new green velvet chairs to arrive next week). Would shorter curtains to layer over the existing sheers be odd? And maybe then raise the rod so the hems hit at (or just below) the window trim? Lots of questions and hesitancy on my part. Thank you in advance for your opinions.

If you are asking about MCM styles, that window would probably have had short pinch pleat curtains that ended at the apron, not near the floor. Common lengths were 54 inches. Google "apron curtains" for ideas.

Just use a diverter for the vent.

A nice look would be to use shades instead of the sheers. The shades could be of whatever privacy would like. You could then do drapery panels on the ends. If you're a diy'er or it's in the budget you could move your vent from a wall baseboard vent to a floor vent and have it located about 5-6" in front of the wall so that the draperies could hang behind it.

The curtains you show are too short. They should go all the way to the floor. A combination of stationary drapery panels and woven shades would be very pretty.

Can't see how much clearance you have inside your window casing and around the window trim. I would do light filtering pleated shades (with top-down/bottom-up) on the windows and add decorative stationary panels on each side.

All kinds of options, but agree with other comments. Curtains must go to the floor. Sheers might be fine, with drapery panels, but the sheers MUST go to the floor! You mentioned something shorter? No….
We are on a busier street and have full length drapery panels with sheers in our living room facing the street. The nice thing about sheers is that you get privacy without losing outside light, and you don’t have to raise/lower/close/open blinds morning and night!

Adding a few pictures with as much light as I can get. Again, we have just moved in so all is not yet as it will be. :) Also, wanted to add that there are 2 wall air registers that full curtains would cover. I will buy a few deflectors to see if that would work but wouldn't the curtains sit on them? Also, if I went with shades/blinds, i would need to do 3, yes? Not as good a look in my mind.

Explore idea of relocating the mirror, have drape panel at each end that goes to the floor and have a shade on each window.

@bearbev Agreed! It is only there temporarily as I decide where to place it. Actually thinking about floating shelves on both side of the TV (and maybe above as well).

Before doing curtains you might consider having an HVAC professional come in and change out that vent. It looks very strange in that space and perhaps it can be re-routed so it's not right under the window. Then you'd have more flexibility on window treatments.
