Living room curtains

Hello
We are in the process of decorating our living room. Our living room is bright because it has four large windows. We love the brightness of the area, but not so much when we watch tv. Our TV is placed above the fireplace in the living room. Is it okay to put black out or room darkening curtains in the living room so its not as bright while watching TV? Any suggestions and recommendations would be much appreciated. Thanks 🙏🏼

I don't see any reason why you cannot do that, I think it would be a beautiful look. Any lined curtain should control light adequately for watching TV.

Certainly. I did that in the upstairs loft area of my other house. The curtains are substantial and generously sized panels that go across the wall (though the windows are smaller). The rod is a heavy duty rod. It’s a good solution as long as the curtains and rod are good quality.

It would be helpful to see the windows’ configuration, for instance using a combination of blinds/drapes might be a good choice. Blackouts are great for blocking every bit of light in a bedroom, but can’t imagine needing for viewing a tv; configuration below for example provides light control options.

Currently we have paper blinds as we just moved in and are yet to furnish the house and get new shades etc

If budget allowed, suggest motorized blinds for convenience and salesperson can recommend the right texture for your light blocking needs.

Curtains may not work well given the proximity to the corner/bookcase and the amout of drape overlaping window. What is the other side like; can you achieve symmetry.

Curtain panels always finish a room. I would shop for material that sets off your room beautifully and line them if necessary as opposed to being hemmed in by "black out" curtains options. You might find putting your TV in the right alcove gives you some relief from glare from sunbeams coming in the windows. The TV over the fireplace look always dresses down the over all presentation of a room.

This is a 3D rendition of our living room from online design company called Havenly. They have used sheer curtains but we feel that might not be enough to cover the glare from sunlight.
You can see both sides of the windows in this pic.
    Thanks

Your window is not as high or wide/ceiling not as high and I think that look will be too much/overwhelm.

Just confirming…Are you talking about the curtains??
Also, it is a high cathedral ceiling in the center and becomes lower towards the sides, one side being windows. Thanks

The ceiling height at the window. Won’t look like your inspiration pictures.

I would do some kind of inside mount shade for light control and curtains for texture and color.

The issue I see is that there isn't a lot of clearance around the windows for properly sized curtain panels. The curtains will permanently cover a good portion of each window. You have a lot of windows so it shouldn't be a huge issue but you should plot out how you want to space the curtains and how much window you are comfortable with covering before you make purchases.
