Looks like a light/mid gray roof? For now, I would paint the green, white to match the rest of the home.

The green paint on the foundation was ill-advised for sure. Whatever color you choose, use it on the whole house.

Any attempt to make this house more modern/contemporary would also be ill-advised as it’s obviously a grand old Victorian lady. There are lots of ”Victorian house authentic paint” websites. Google to take a look.

Please post a close up of the green areas to show if it is brick, siding, or something else.

If you live in an area where you can paint in the winter, start by painting the green areas white after giving them a coat or two of white primer. You can color-match the existing white paint pretty closely with your favorite paint company's paint chips.

I strongly recommend buying the paint color fan deck from your favorite paint company. My local paint company's deck cost $40.

Another easy color option for the green areas is to match (more or less) the light gray of the roof. Using light gray in this case will avoid the "bright white new paint" contrast with the older white paint which may be a bit grimy and hard to scrub clean.

I aslo love contemporay interiors but I love painted ladies Victorain exteriors I do not believe the inside and outside need to be the same style in fact I might be tempted to go full on Victorian and have the interior be a surprise.

The roof will need to be replaced. We have not decided on a color yet. So we need suggestions. Are there any particular colors you would suggest for the exterior and does anyone know how to visualize so I can see what it will look like? Thanks!

Choose the roof color first. Usually, a mid-gray is best. Black is often too dark and attracts heat. Roof shingle sites let you upload a picture of your home and try different roof colors.

I dunno. It's a Victorian house. Even painting it all one color won't make it "modern". The architecture is what it is. I'd embrace the house you have and pick a palette you love. Here are several examples:

I love the pop of color around the windows. It does make it more dramatic.

I had a home once with a front porch exactly like yours, including the inset rows of curved shakes. Since you sound like you want a more contemporary feel, I would keep it white, paint your window frames black, paint the porch a medium gray, and pick out the curved shakes with a darker gray, almost black. Keep it simple. Love your curved entrance, too!
