Bleach? Like straight out of the bottle 100% bleach, cleaner w/bleach, water/bleach solution, or something else?

I have used Lysol w/bleach kitchen cleaner for the past 30 years on granite, quartz, quartzite and never had a problem. Don't use it all the time, mostly after preparing raw meat. I will usually also rinse with clean water afterwards and wipe dry.

I only keep straight bleach in the laundry room and out of reach from others in the house.

Very likely you just have a film on the surface. Wipe it down with a ph neutral cleaner until it feels clean. I always use vodka and a microfiber cloth to clean my granite because it leaves no residue. Maybe in your case start with a VERY mild vinegar solution (bleach = base vinegar = acid)

Try some Tenax Ager please. Try to find a pint; that's plenty. Watch the video.

Do not use vinegar on your granite; ignore that advice. It would be a mistake. Just because vinegar works on clothes, people think it works on a stone? It would actually make things worse and possibly etch the granite.

I would try acetone. First try it in an inconspicuous spot on the granite. If you have nail polish remover at home, that is acetone. Or buy a small bottle at Home Depot. If acetone doesn’t work, I am afraid you will need to call in a stone fabricator to see if the counter can be refinished.

Testing an inconspicuous section with vinegar is not a bad idea.
