How to find or even describe a replacement lamp shade

I need to replace these lamp shades. I don't know how to describe them to find shades like these (or maybe no one makes something like this these days?) I would so much appreciate any suggestions for how to describe or where to find these...

The bottom is 8-3/4" wide. The top is 4" wide.

Thanks for any advice you can offer!

Hi, looks like your shade is rectangular? Found this one which is very close on top and bottom dimensions

Maybe you can show the lamps in the light and see what the designers say about whether or not a different shape shade might update your space.

Home Depot has 626 lamp shades and Lowes has 741.

Where do you live? If you are in a larger town, there is likely a retail store that specializes in lampshades or at least a nonbigbox lamp store that can help you find what you want. Bring the shade to them and see what is recommended.

It's hard to tell the shape, material and size of the shade you wish to replace from your photo. Can you show it from the top or other sides with dimensions?

If all else fails and your budget is healthy, there is a store in NYC I used to walk by that remakes shades on existing frames or makes them custom. I'm sure you can find them with a google search or find one in a city near you.

Find a dedicated lighting store. Take the lamp.

" Buying a lampshade without your lamp, is like buying a hat without your head"

That's in the entry of my near shop. It is truth: )

You may well find it is less expensive to REPLACE the two lamps unless you adore them. Yes.......the price of shades, unless you hit "magic" in a Target or Pottery Barn? Downright hideous : ) often more than the little lamp cost.

Don't even ask about custom......you will definitely not like that price.

My town used to have a dedicated lampshade shop. It had an amazing inventory of shades. No more. Even the lighting stores don't have a great selection anymore :(

I go to Lamps Plus and do a search for the size and shape I need. It takes a long time to find anything, due to the poor search functions. And rectangular shades are very scarce. But you have to keep at it, do Google searches, and yes, you will pay dearly. Such is the state of replacing anything these days.

    SM's options look very good.

Jan is right- I went to a lampshade store and nearly fell over at the prices. I was able to get one replacement at a Target.

Good lamps are hard! Especially with the conversion to LED. And I need a lotta wattage, so even harder. I am using a number of lamps that are decades old not because they’re perfect style for my spaces now, but because I’ve been discouraged about options for replacing. Need to climb out of that slump.

You can try online by searching for the dimensions - of course that will bring up some hits & misses- but then have to evaluate shipping & return issues.

If the shade is round, the shape is called an Empire shade; this may help with the search.

The price of lamps, of shades........has hit even MY GAG THRESHOLD

I guarantee you - that is far higher than most!

My sister asked me to replace a lamp shade. I bought her a new lamp.

The why to all this issue? The lamps are China, whether 19.99 or 1,999.00 . The shades are USA.

Now add the stupid "dedicated led light bulb"

type ( don't touch these ) and now I am getting riled up.

The Decorative Crafts black shaded/brass lined buillottes I have from decades ago, and will not ever part with? Those were 495.00 and staggering/expensive 20 odd years ago. D.C is gone, along with the beautiful lamps, and a replacement on 1st dibs or Chairish? Nearly 2k. I'll die with mine. Far lovelier than this......

What is the measurement of the slanted side, top rim to bottom rim?

Occasionally I'll find a stunning vintage shade at a thrift store and scoop it up for future use someplace. They usually have the store label sewn in the seam. A google search always reveals a high end shop far away that is now long gone. I was fortunate to find a pair of pristine Waterford Eclipse lamps with original shades at a Habitat for $45 each. If the shades ever need replacing, those lamps are done. I did bite the bullet and buy a new silk shade ($150) for my mother's prized marble lamp I inherited. The sweet lady who owns the shade shop is pretty vintage herself but still does a great business.

There are lots of custom lampshade options on Etsy - just another option

FWIW I have ordered from this one and had a great experience
