Design Dilemma Fireplaces

Fireplace Surround, Mantel & Hearth

We are converting our fireplace from woodburning to electric. We will have a wooden surround and mantle built to frame a 40"w x 27.5" fireplace frame. We are trying to decide whether to cover the brownish tone brick hearth with a tile or stone that works with our mid century modern aesthetic. Should we also replace the brick fireplace face with the same material that we choose for the hearth?

Pictures will help and will get you more comments. Can you post some of the fireplace, the rest of the room, and any tile or stone that you are considering?

Mystery meat . A solid stone far better than tile, and if a raised hearth? Get rid of it. Not suited to electric linear at all. Even then? Show it and the rest of the room
