Hi - I’m not a pro, but I would keep the brick by the fireplace, then remove the rest of it and install a properly sized wooden step that is the length of the French doors (so the wooden step and brick hearth would not touch). Hopefully code doesn’t require that the step be as deep at the hearth.

I think, because this is an in-swinging door this has to have a landing that is the depth of the door swing inside rather than a step of a standard depth.

IMO a weird place for FP is is real or electric? As for the step that will need to be ther ein some fashion unless you want a huge expense fixing all of that. I would remove the FP and do a wood step that is the same as the flooring all across that wall from french doors to the wall on the right .

Is it possible you're focused on the brick step because there is nothing else to grab your attention? When the FP was installed in this location, someone made the decision that extending the hearth across the threshold to create the step was a good solution as you enter from outdoors. That doesn't seem like an unreasonable solution compared to changing materials on the step.

I can't get past someone thought it was a good decision to paint the ceiling with gloss paint & highlight every imperfection in the ceiling. Looks like they used satin on the walls also.

If this is an area where you plan to place seating and a TV, I want to see how that's going to work because there are some spatial issues in this room.
