Why the TV in fornt of a window when you have a big empty wall behind a sofa .I need a floor plan to understand the furniture layout and all the pices in there in waht appears to be a small spac e.

the photos don't help much. pan back a bit to get the whole space.

that said, I would move the TV to the solid inside wall and place the loveseat under the shuttered window... paint the TV Wall a dark rich color like Polished Mahogany, Naval, Black Watch, Peppercorn... something deep so the TV blends into the wall, easy on the eyes for viewing.

I would edit the decor... word art should be retired.

an area rug to soften and ground the furnishings will make it more cozy.

I would choose a color from the rug to paint the walls, including the trim to make the room feel calmer. I would mount the TV to the wall and eliminate the credenze, if you can to add more room.

Lighter? Is that the only goal? I agree on the rug--choose the lightest color in the rug. Rework the art in your space. It looks like it was all hung before furniture. As far as a modern vibe--we need more info on your idea of modern but those shutters add nothing to the cozy factor.

The furniture looks good, especially the beautiful wood top of the coffee table. Update your artwork to substantial framed pieces (as housegal200 demonstrates) after removing the current decorative items. Other suggestions above are excellent, too.

If you need more privacy from your neighbors' view in through the window, consider a shrub, trellis or fence to block their view. Alternatively, you can add daytime sheers or decorative window film (white, patterned clear or stained glass effects).

I agree with the previous commenters that you need to rearrange the furniture. Maybe it's the lighting in the picture, but the current wall color looks gold. Unless you really like it, I would try something else like a warm white or off white. If you like color, look at greens.

I like having more light into the room, so I will definitely take upon your advice on flipping the TV and sofa. However, when I do that, the wall against the TV will be empty. I am open to suggestions on how to fill the space, or perhaps I should just leave it empty for a minimalist feel? Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome.

If you move your TV to the current sofa wall, the TV will take up enough space that you will not need to add anything to that wall. Remove the family friends art pieces. Get a framed print. I'd paint the ceilng and walls the color of your current trim. The furniture will pop against it. You can bring pattern, texture, and and color in via a rug.

Wow, you are quick and it looks great. What a difference. The art looks great. Is that a small light over the artwork and if so, is it hardwired?

Maybe just a minimalist floor lamp - in dark wood with white shade?

For cozy light when in the evening…

The new picture light I added to the room gave it a touch of elegance and was easy to install due to its wireless feature. However, I also noticed that the rug size in the room is smaller than I had anticipated. Let me know your thoughts on it. As for the next step, I will plan on shopping for a nice lamp to further enhance the space.

You might want to post your photos on Houzz's Before and After along with the suggestions you got. This is actually a perfect example of the way a change in layout can change the feeling of an entire room. Now the space is more welcoming because you see the comfy sofa and windws first, not the big dark TV. Well done!
