It’s 18 degrees this morning here in Vancouver! At 300’ elvevation I don’t have snow but it’s all around in hills. Freezing in our forecast until Mon / Tues. Many activities cancelled & homeless shelters open 24/7 & accepting pets. This is much too cold for us in our area. We worry about power outages from fallen trees if we get freezing rain.

Next week is freezing also here in Finland about -20 to -27 celsius (-4F to -16.6F). We had even colder after new year. It's has been cold winter. Lot's of snow, that I like very much.

@oursteelers 8B PNW You’re north of me, right? Since I posted things have changed - now snowing in my spot. PDX just south 20 minutes has much more & is usually worse than Vancouver sitting on the north side of the Columbia River. Just like with Seattle it’s the ice that’s the big issue! So happy I don’t have to go out anywhere - my commuting days were all in Seattle & that was no fun even when riding the Sounder to work - still had to get down the hills to the train station!

Yeah, I’m just a little east of Seattle, in the foothills. I sure hope your snow heads this way but it’s not looking like it :(

Saija, I’m so jealous of your Jade Cascade. I put mine in its ”forever pot” which was way too big so it’s taking forever to fill it out. I knew better since hosta like crowded roots but I’m so lazy🤦🏻‍♀️

@Saija_Finland I was thinking of you when whining about our cold - the current prediction is 85 hours of below freezing temps here - many places our plants won’t have an insulating cover of snow so we might see ground heaving and freeze killed plants. Our major weather events like this are just ”weather business as usual” for places like Finland, yes? We must sound like a bunch of sissies! 😁

Speaking of weather——Milwaukee just got pummeled with about 15” of snow. Temperature is 27, but wind chill is 4. For the next4-7 days we are facing single digit to minus degree temperatures for day and below 0 F temperatures for nights. I don’t mind the snow so much, but I hate the cold cold temps! 🥶🥶

This morning it was sunny, warm, and when I looked outside everything was green. And then I woke up! No kidding, I was really having that dream. It’s nice to see greener days in our hosta alphabet.

Beth, that pic of all the flowering Junes is so pretty! My June flowers were all tucked down low so not very noticeable.

Debra - I'm just across the lake from Milwaukee and we are getting pretty much the same. I actually prefer the cold to the snow. Another passion of mine is ice fishing and the past few years has been poor ice. Haven't had good ice yet but I think next week it will be here.

Paula - I think possibly my DW wanted to have my guitar tuned when I was trying to take lessons. I never did learn. :(

I have one J..June..I took a mental count..I think I have 15 Junes..a trio by a concrete bench earlier and later..another trio in front..one is reverting..

Journey’s End is gorgeous! I have one, but no pictures of it this past season. That could mean it didn’t survive, looked awful due to heat/drought, or both. This was a bad year for my garden, but that happens.

Sandyslopes,believe it or not, that June still has a distinct border color, just very difficult to see. The Halcyons I have are from reverted Junes though.

I love your Jade Cascade Saija ,Beth and undertheoaksgardener. The leaves grow more uniquely shaped as it matures.

I am really noticing how lovely June Spirit is. Love the dark colored margins of yours---Beth, Shadow and old_dirt. Putting it on my wish list. Unfortunately, Jade Cascade grows too big for me to add it also.

I only seem to have photographed June. But it deserves to be photographed. Definitely one of the best hosta! I have several of them around my garden.

Laurie, we should be fine on the downed pine trees. I might need to move things around again. Gardens are ever changing some getting more shade and some getting more sun then the year before. I also love your "Jaws" it looks like such a dark rippled hosta.

Steve that is a great grouping. Sometimes a lot of varigateds together can look too busy to my eyes but that is expertly balanced

Thank you mbug! I seem to recall that you have an awesome Jaws. Am I misremembering?

I had a nice one, but it reverted last year. I dug it up and began rehab, so we shall see what the spring brings. Not too optimistic.

What a shame, I do hope rehab is successful. I recall it being quite fabulous. The parentage is unknown so I take it that the reversion was less than stellar.

Sorry peren..... I used the wrong term. It had been growing nicely for a few years. Last year came back tiny and unattractive....very sad looking little guy. We will see what happens next!
