Lakeside Breaking News was the first Lakeside I ever ordered, but never shipped due to crop failure. I've been looking for one ever since. I did find one . . . at Fransen's . . . in Holland . . . and me not in a smuggling mood . . . besides there were plenty of others that would have been smuggled in before it . . . Sun and Shadow . . . Extreme . . . Bull Frog . . . Sir Richard . . . Oh the pain. . . Guess I was hoping I'd be able to get them in the states before long . . . well it's been long, and they still aren't around. Hindsight is 20/20 (or would have gotten me 10 to 20).

I think L. Cindy Cee is one of the prettiest hosta I've seen. UK Hostaman had one that was stunning (all his hosta were). Jeff (LOTG) finally sold me one in giant size. It got nematodes and I had to toss it. (That was before I knew those ferns you buy for seasonal interest in the spring usually carry nematodes. Don't hang them over your hosta.)

Well, I really did not take many garden photos this year. This is the only photo of LS Paisley Print from 2023, front row on the right.

Well, now I know why some Lakesides are hard to find - Gary bought them all.

I've heard they like to grow in a warmer climate (for Hosta) and with almost everyone posting from north of their origin and not many really large examples shown, this anecdotally, small sample size shows how true that is. Except Saija seems to have found the secret - care to share?

I've had my share of issues with Lakesides - from tree roots to melting out but some of them are just so striking I'm going to keep trying. Wade & Gatton seemed to grow excessively large ones in pots in their greenhouses. I bought a large Lakeside Old Smokey from them that did well for a couple years until the tree roots invaded. I rescued the survivors in pots and replanted them the following year . . . in the same place . . . where they did OK . . . for a couple years . . .hmmm, guess I'll see this year how stupid I was - I may have to buy a new one if I can find one bigger. It's just such a lovely, unique shade. I think I kept posting the same pic from when it looked good in 2019 every year. Instead, here it is in 2022 a year after the rescue since I didn't post it last year.

Beth - I love your Paisley Print. So frenetic looking. This one seems to have interesting variation from garden-to-garden and from year-to-year and possibly from TC batch-to-batch. I still have the same 2 eyes I planted in 2016 but at least the leaves are getting bigger. No recent pic so . . . 2021

Maybe it needs more room to spread its wings.
