Totally agree with painting it all the same color. Are you keeping your same furniture or open to something different? What about bedding and window treatments? Do you have a budget in mind?

Keeping the furniture but open to changing everything else. Budget is probably $3K? I can do a lot, if not all, of the work myself.

I like the earthy color palette in these inspirations photos. This restful pale gray from Benjamin Moore would look good on all walls and ceiling as elcieg suggested. Add lots of texture, such as woven wood blinds and a knitted throw. A rug with a border will outlline the bed and anchor it in the large room.

If budget allows, consider changing floor to a mid warm LVP (lighter than the fan). From there it’s about rug selection, paint and window treatments.

Can't do the flooring yet (that'll be part of a bigger project down the road) - but yes on all of the other 3. Rugs over carpet though?

I'd actually love to get rid of the fan and add a chandelier, but we use the fan too often to get rid of it...

Can you post a pic of the fourth wall with the TV. What other furniture is over there and do you use it all? Does anyone aside from the teddy bear use the arm chair? Figure this out and edit down your furniture.

Lighting - why no lamps next to the bed and why the floor lamp by the window?

I will shortly Kendrah - there's a ton of stuff over there unfortuntately! Dresser with our TV, a desk for my wife (we BOTH WFH). I want to remove the rocking chair from the room, but my wife doesn't (help me convince her). The floor lamp needs to go and I have lamps that I removed for the photo - we need new bedside lamps. I'd like to have ones that are wall sconces but there isn't room with the master bed. I'm also going to attach a mock up in a bit.

I'd take hardware off, screw the panels on and forget they are there! Add a nice long bench. upholstered, even storage!

A curtain rod with drapes and/or linen sheers to the floor and the entire width of the wall behind the bed. It will soften the room and downplay the off-center windows. It will draw the eye down and soften the space. Move the headboard out for clearance.

I agree with getting rid of the contrasing walls by painting them the ceiling color.

Feels like the room needs some softening - drapery for the windows, larger and fuller bed clothes. Those photos with lovely puffy beds usually have covers that are a size larger than the bed and, I believe, have 2 doonas inside to create the fluff! You could have 2 covers on the bed, one to actually sleep under, and the second a dress set with the decorative cover to polish up the bedding which is removed at night.

If looking at lamps, because of the height of the bed head and room you will need ones with height - at least the height of the bed head. Anything lower will just look small and out of proportion.

Is the grey chair the rocker you are referring to? If so, instead of taking the chair out altogether, how about another style of chair? Or just removing the footstool? Another style - say a boudoir chair that is larger seat base but no armrest may be less imposing.

Oh, and fix up the wonky drawer!

Totally Jan, but we have a 4 bed house with 3 kids (7/4/2) and two parents that work from home - nowhere else it can go for now. Just pretend that doesn't exist since one day it'll be out haha...

I think everyone agrees 1) the paint needs to be refreshed with a warmer white or something soothing that matches the ceiling 2) the blinds have to be replaced with window treatments like drapes 3) the chair needs to go or be changed 4) the tables need lights that anchor the space and the floor lamp has to go 5) maybe add a bench or rug to achor the bed - right?

1. i think loosing the ceiling fan- no ceiling fixture as it highlights the odd roofline
2. a geometric wall treatment on the entire headboard wall could be attractive and it could all be painted white or the color it already is
3. larger nightstand (side tables) - the ones you have are small for the wall and room; larger might look nice under tyw windows and hold large lamps
4. large tall lamps on the side tables

I don't think the blinds have to be replaced. They are so functional. You can mount an outside rod on the wall for curtains. Look at Beverly's rendering, she kept the blinds.

The ceiling is darker which brings it down.

Orient the desk somehow so the computer screen does not face the bed. And get a folding screen to hide that corner after hours.

You may want to decide if the room would be improved with a rug under the bed after all other changes are done.

If you don't measure the room, ( all of it, including entry, where the bath door is, the windows and yes, I mean every inch) you won't get the best help.

You are focused only on the decorative elements, and that is fine......AFTER you determine what must be in the room.

Agree about painting all one color and adding drapes (I love a slubby white linen against soft white walls but that’s a me thing) + add nice lamps to the bedside tables (make sure they are not too small, I love the room&board Serena lamp) also change out the ceiling fan to a sleek modern one, no light

I would be tempted to move the dresser where those canvas are leaning on the walls and mount the TV above it on a swing arm that can be pulled out pivoted to face the bed - then I would want some fabulous room screen to block off the view of the desk from the bed - seems like the room is big enough to pull off and it will help reduce the visible work clutter - WFH is part of life for sure but it’s nice not to look at it when you’re in bed
