Bathroom Refresh Help

I am wanting to refresh our bathroom but don’t have the funds to put in new tiles/flooring unfortunately. Im not a fan of all the yellow/beige happening and it just feels kind of grungy to me. Any advice on what I can do to spruce this space up? I’m thinking paint it white and add in new hardware and doing two mirrors? Any ideas?

It already looks white in the pictures. Paint the walls a lighter version of the shower tile. A nice faux roman shade on the window. A large rug. New hardware.

    Change the hardware.
    New mirrors
    And new lighting.
    You don’t need to paint.

At the moment you have three different colors of tile (shower, tub surround and floor). There isn't anything wrong with the wall color. I would just get new light fixtures, a different window shade and rugs if you need a change. Save up to replace the tile. If your vanity is an older one that isn't as tall as they are now (same height as kitchen counters) you should consider replacing that as well later. If you think you will replace the vanity later, no need to mess with the mirror right now.

Change the floor now--use colors already in the room--and save up to change the mirrors later.

There are paints that you can use on tile floors. I’ve seen them used on TV, but don’t know how well they holdup. To me, the “dinginess” is mostly from the floor color. Look into painting the tile floor, and then add a rug?

@kandrewspa @Rho Dodendron Thank you both. Unfortunately we are planning to sell our home in the next 2 years so we don't want to sink too much money into it. I would just like to enjoy it a bit more than I do before we move.

@HU-187528210 Thanks for the visual! Love the look of the gold hardware in there.

@chloe00s Hmmm I'm liking this idea. I guess I need to figure out a color that wouldn't clash with all of the other colors happening in the room. I'm wondering if I can get away with painting the tub tiles too to add a little more cohesion if I did paint the floors. Thank you!

I also am wondering if it would look totally weird if I removed the glass doors and added a corner shower rod up near the ceiling and put in a pretty shower curtain to hide the brown tiles. Would this look odd? Might be kinda weird next to the tub but the brown shower tiles throw me off.

If you are selling this house in two years, don't start messing around with painting tile surfaces that you don't know how it will hold up. You don't want a junky mess when you go to list. I wouldn't touch the shower enclosure with a curtain getup either.

For two years, I'd get new light fixtures, new hardware, and towels that I love. It is a great idea to take down the mirror and put up two separate mirrors, but you will need to repaint if you do that.

I think you could develop a pretty classic and sophisticated color scheme for your bathroom.

I would spend the money to keep the one large mirror but have one long linear fixture installed over the countertop.

@kendrah You are probably right. Having no experience with painting tiles, the thought is pretty intimidating. That said, I just am desperate to make this a room I can enjoy for the next few years we are here. I don't mind painting the walls at all - right now they are a lot more yellow than they appear in the pictures posted which doesn't make the room feel very fresh. Do you have any insight on what paint colors may go with all of the beige/tan happening? I usually love white walls and adding pops of colors with decor, but with the vanity being white, that might be too much. Unless I painted the vanity? (which I dont mind doing either)

@BeverlyFLADeziner Thanks so much for the visual - they help so much! Do you think a soft grey would work in this space? Do you think white would be too much white against the white vanity?

Not sure the shape of the bath, but could you put down a crisp sisal or jute rug and cover most of the tile?

I think Beverly is on to something with her grey mock up. I'd experiment with big samplize swatches to get the right one and check it out both day and night. If you are painting, I'd for sure take the big mirror down and put up two separate mirrors. It will look much more appealing and updated in photos to prospective buyers.

Are the vanity lights really high up on the wall or is it just the angle of the pic? I'd be mindful of their height if you new mirrors. It's either lower the lights, or pic pretty tall mirrors so there isn't a strange gap between the two.

What is the condition of your floor? If it is grungy, I'd try to get it deep steam cleaned before you pic paint colors so you know what color floor you are working with. (Am I optimistic to think a steam clean can make THAT much of a difference?)

Nothing wrong with the off-white items you have. You just need a common denominator to link everything and be of contrast to make the off-white look bright and current.

You need just the right gray for the paint on the walls and a darker more charcoal gray for the Roman shade or valance and the rugs/towel mat. I won't kid you. it's going to be trial an error to find them. I'll bet you select 10 sample paint chips before you get the one that will look right with the shower tile.

Thanks everyone. I plan to get a bunch of samples to test out some greys in the room. Hopefully the decision comes easy. I mocked up a very messy looking edit and am kind of liking a soft grey with gold hardware - I tend to shy away from darker shades as I fear the room will feel too dark. We will see!

You'd find it way too small in there with a shower curtain -- it would end up sticking to you. Plus, water everywhere!

Definitely give some thought to settling on one color for fixtures, which re now some black and some chrome. That doesn't have to be expensive. I like the brass!

Also, in terms of enjoyment, add some color -- a flowered rug, say, or somem fun striped towels, as well as art that appeals to you. The basics here are neutral enough that you can add all the personality you need to with things you can carry with you.
